GIMMEL     "gadlu l’adonai iti… extol the lord with me"

“GADLU L’ADONAI ITI… EXTOL THE LORD WITH ME” is the third in a series of iconoscapes’ based on the Hebrew alphabet.

“GadluL’AdonaiIti” is a phrase sung by the Hazzanwhen the Torah is removed from the Ark of the Law. The whole sentence reads as follows: “Extol the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together”.

The initial letter, gimmel, is placed against the Ark. The bird on the top of the letter signifies the Hazzan. The birds in the center suggest the responding congregation. The Crown of Torah floats above.

Among the other symbols used are the shofar (ram’s horn), rimonim (embellishments of the upper handles of the scrolls), the tablet of the Law, the letter shin for Shaddai (another term for G-d), and the menorah.
