“Ani Ma’amin… I believe” is based on the twelfth of the Thirteen Principles of Jewish Faith authored by Maimonides. Translated into English, it begins, “I believe with complete faith in the coming of the Messiah…” The primary symbols used are the shofar (it is said that the prophet Elijah will blow the shofar to announce the Messiah), which forms part of the Alef, and the Crown of the Messiah. The three musical instruments are inspired by those of the Temple. Stars of David and menorahs are woven in and out of the Alef…ancient motifs in a contemporary mode.
